UK is the only place in the world, where all three of BMW Group’s brands are represented. This group also has a UK Sales and Marketing subsidiary in Bracknell with a Vehicle Distribution Centre in Thorne. In 2011 BMW Group UK reported sales more than 170,000 BMW and MINI vehicles. BMW Group’s cars are most common in UK, that is why this company is responsible for environment. The company is very serious about environmental protection. All manufacturing plans are certified to the International Management Standard ISO 14001. BMW Group established a lot of improvement programs and successfully develops them. There are about 8000 people working for the company directly in the UK.
There are three BMW plants: BMW plant Oxford, BMW plant Hams Hall, BMW plant Swindon. At the plant in Oxford the company produces such products as: MINI Hatch, MINI Clubman, MINI Convertible, MINI Coupé, MINI Roadster, and Clubvan. The plant builds around 900 MINIs per day to individual customer order, five days a week. It consists of a bodyshop, paintshop and assembly hall. Since 2001, over two million MINIs have been built. BMW plant Hams Hall produces four-cylinder petrol engines. Over 800 people are employed there. This plant supplies engines to factories across the global BMW Group production network in Germany, Austria and South Africa, in addition to BMW CKD plants in Germany for onward dispatch to Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Egypt, Russia and India. BMW Plant Swindon is a home of MINI panel production. The plant has been the main supplier of MINI panels since 2005. And now some facts about the company and its products. Almost every fifth car produced in the UK is a MINI; more than 1.6 million MINIs have been exported to over 100 countries; 18,000 people directly employed by company; £1.2 billion contribution to UK GDP.
