Established in 1835, Bristol Zoo Gardens was opened in 1836. A group of eminent local citizens took part of creating this Zoo. In 2011 Bristol Zoo Gardens celebrated its 175 anniversary. For more than 175 years people can enjoy the beauty and power of the Zoo. The total area is about 12 acres (5 ha). Among major exhibits are Seal and Penguin Coasts, Gorilla Island and Zona Brazil. Its memberships are The Bristol, Clifton and West of England Zoological Society. The official name of the zoo is Bristol Zoological Gardens, but for commercial purposes we usually call this like ‘Bristol Zoo Gardens’. Zoo includes several buildings which are unsuitable for the care of animals. It’s also worth to mention that there are some species that were first born in captivity at Bristol Zoo Gardens.
All animals at the Zoo are divided into several groups, including Aquarium, Asiatic Lions, Bug World, Butterfly Forest, Flamingos, Fruit bats, Gibbon Island, Gorilla Island, Meerkats, Monkey Jungle, Okapi, Pudu, Pygmy hippos, Red panda, Reptile House, Seal & Penguin Coasts, Twilight World and Zona Brazil. Except animals there are also Gardens, Attractions, Animaker Game, Walk of Fame and DinoZoo. If you have some phobias, Bristol Zoo Gardens offers you phobia sessions.
